In conjunction with our friends at Disabled Student Programs
and Services, the IMC is happy to offer Closed Captioning. Currently there
are two captioning units which use Rapid Text software to caption video
tapes in the media resource video collection.
All closed-captioning services must be arranged through Disabled Student
Programs & Services (DSP&S). Faculty members who require closed-captioning
for a video program to be viewed by a hearing impaired student must submit
a Caption Request Form (one for each videotape)
at least two weeks in advance to DSP&S. Caption Request Forms will
be distributed at the beginning and end of each semester, and additional
forms will be available in the DSP&S office. Faculty may submit their
requests to DSP&S at any time during the semester.
All captioned videotapes are catalogued by the Library/Learning Resources
and are included in the library catalog, LAMP.
Faculty should confirm that a captioned version of the videotape does
not exist before submitting a Caption Request Form to DSP&S. Captioned
videotapes in LAMP have a subject heading entitled “Video
recordings for the hearing impaired.”
District-produced,
closed-captioned videotapes are only to be used to support and meet ADA
requirements by fulfilling the needs of hearing impaired students. A district-produced,
closed-captioned videotape is considered a supplement to the original
videotape and should not be thought of as a second copy of the original.
These supplemental, closed-captioned videotapes are only circulated for
use by and for the hearing impaired.
If you do not have Adobe Acrobat to view the Caption Request form, you
can download
a copy from Adobe's website.
